Q:Why should we work with Adoptions First?
A: We enjoy the highest success rate in the country of over 90%. All our birth mothers are carefully selected and screened.

Q:What types of adoptions are available?
A: We provide services for open and closed domestic adoptions. We are also approved to represent Europeans who wish to adopt American babies under the Hague Convention Treaty.

Q:How is the birth mother screened?
A: The screening process requires information about medical and lifestyle history from both birth parents. When requested, we pre-screen our birth mothers for drug or alcohol use.

Q:Can the birth mother change her mind?
A: Legally, a birth mother anywhere in the United States has the right to change her mind until she signs a consent to the adoption. It is our practice that a birth mother signs a consent and waiver 24-48 hours after the birth that irrevocably terminates her rights.

Q:What is a home study?
A: The home study is a required report prepared by a licensed social worker or agency. This report emphasizes things such as the environmental stability of your home and past and present relationships in your lives.

Q:How much does it cost to adopt?
A: The cost of an adoption depends on a variety of factors, i.e. whether the birth mother has medical coverage, the location of the birth mother, transportation costs, living expenses prior to birth, post-adoption expenses, legal fees, birth father issues, and the complexity of the adoption. We will create an adoption plan that will fit within your budget.

Q: Will the birth mother be able to contact us any time she wants?
A: Our staff will assist you and the birth mother in creating an agreement that works for everyone. Most families are willing to provide pictures and letters once a year. Some families are comfortable communicating on a limited basis through social networking sites like Facebook or MySpace. Generally, there are no in-person visits.
