The Hague Adoption Convention is an international agreement between approximately 80 participating countries to safeguard inter-country adoptions. It provides a framework for member countries to work together to ensure that adoptions take place in the best interests of a child, and that the abduction, sale or traffic in children is prevented. The Hague Adoption Convention entered into force in the United States on April 1, 2008. While the Hague Adoption Convention is beneficial in safeguarding adoption, it has made the requirements for adoption more burdensome. For example, only accredited agencies or approved providers may now provide adoption services.
Adoptions First is an approved Sub Provider of adoption services under the Hague Convention.
Adoptions First recently handled the first successful outgoing Hague case ever completed in California. The family, from the Netherlands, adopted a wonderful, healthy little boy and are doing well.
If you started an adoption process before April 1, 2008, your case may not be subject to the restrictions imposed by the Hague Adoption Convention. Adoptions First specializes in such “transition cases” and we will discuss your legal options. Contact us for information about your adoption application status. We assist families from Holland, Switzerland, Germany, France, Austria, Great Britain and Italy.
* Note: We do not represent families who wish to adopt from countries outside of the United Sates.
